Ballet, archaeology, football: this is how the Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Season started
Contemporary Ballet, World Music, Classical Jazz, and Musical Theatre Highlight the First Quarter of the Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Season.
The Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Season, which began in January, has already showcased an impressive lineup of contemporary ballet, world music, classical jazz, and musical theatre. Marking the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Hungary, 2024 was designated a cultural year under the theme “A Century of Friendship and Cooperation.” With the goal of hosting “100 Events for the 100th Year,” the official launch took place on December 18, 2023.
HotelPremio Group has won GoTurkiye’s PR tender in Hungary, covering not only traditional tourism PR and marketing responsibilities but also event management for the special Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Year.
Running until December 2024, the Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Year is organized in collaboration with Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, GoTurkiye, and the Hungarian government, offering diverse monthly events that present Turkish culture from a variety of perspectives.
The first event, held in partnership with the National Archaeological Institute at the Hungarian National Museum, centered on the Taş Tepeler project and the Karahantepe excavations. In March, Eötvös Loránd University hosted a conference on “Turkology in Hungary and Hungarian Studies in Turkey.” This gathering featured distinguished linguists, literary scholars, historians, and folklorists presenting their research on shared Turkish-Hungarian historical and cultural heritage.
Beyond cultural programming, members of the Hungarian press were invited to participate in numerous press tours during the first quarter, where they explored Turkey’s rich diversity, from its tradition-rooted yet experimental gastronomy to its sites with historical ties to Hungary. To unwind, football fans enjoyed VIP seats at the friendly Turkey-Hungary football match in March.
